It’s the Time of Year for Fair-Hopping!

Spring is the time of year we start seeing fuzzy, chirping ducklings and goslings waddling around among brave, blooming flowers, but it’s also the time of year for a slew of fun fairs to attend! When I was younger, I attended an Earth Day fair with my family and had a BLAST. Organizations were handing out free pine tree saplings, which I excitedly planted the next day, and there were so many interesting booths to look at. It was also fun just being with my fellow community members, all of us celebrating Earth Day together and trying to learn new ways that we could improve our collective neighborhood.

As you probably already know, we love the people at Madison Gas and Electric. They are putting on four Community Energy Resource Fairs this spring, which will each begin with a 30-minute presentation on ways to save energy. CERF is a partnership between MGE and various social services agencies and local non-profits. Topics for discussion will include energy education, energy assistance, weatherization, and community resources.

Each event is FREE and open to the public.  Childcare will be offered to families with young children.  Refreshments will also be provided.  ALL households will receive a CERF information bag that will include brochures and literature from all partners.  A $25 Wal-Mart gift certificate will be randomly placed in five bags.  Households that visit ALL tables will receive a FREE energy conservation kit. Here are the dates, times, and locations for each fair:

  1. Northport Community Learning Center, Saturday, March 27, 1 to 3 p.m.
  2. East Madison Community Center, Saturday, April 10, 1 to 3 p.m.
  3. Urban League of Greater Madison, Saturday, April 17, 1 to 3 p.m.
  4. Lussier Community Education Center, April 24, 1 to 3 p.m.

I can’t wait to go and learn more about energy conservation! See you there!

Wishing you well,
