Interested in green transportation? Think electric cars, scooters, car sharing, and groundbreaking hybrid vehicles are fascinating? You’re in luck–the University of Wisconsin’s Energy Hub is having its third annual Alternative Vehicle Expo coming up this week. It is FREE and open to the public at the Monona Terrace. The expo is on Friday, November 5,  runs from 11am to 7pm, and is located on the first floor of Monona Terrace.

Vehicles in attendance include some from mainstream manufacturers, such as a plug-in version of the Prius from Toyota and a clean diesel model from Volkswagen. The Expo also showcases some non-traditional vehicles. For example, Scooter Therapy will be there showing off its efficient scooters and electric bikes, and Zero Motorcycles will be showcasing its ultra-quiet electric motorcycles. Some companies, like Green Cab of Madison and Community Car, combine green vehicles and systems of transportation and will be showing their cars at the Expo.

Green Cab of Madison is Madison’s first hybrid-only taxi fleet. All Priuses are equipped with bike racks. A Green Cab will take you anywhere in Dane County for extremely competitive rates. You can call a taxi when you need it, schedule a pickup and drop-off, or set up regular trips. Green Cab of Madison demonstrates both a technology–clean hybrid vehicles–and an alternative mode of transportation.  Also each cab is equipped with an iPAD!

Additionally, Community Car will be there with its red Mini Cooper, showcasing its vision of an alternative green transportation system rather than a single vehicle design. Now with 19 vehicles in its fleet, including several hybrids, Community Car continues expanding its car-sharing options.

UW Energy Hub aims to help students, researchers, and organizations at the UW-Madison connect to energy. It is hosting its annual students-only conference concurrently and in the same location. If you are a student, check out both the conference (free for students) and the Alternative Vehicle Expo.

See you there!

You will also be able to see the MGE plug-in Prius and a demo charging station like those being installed in the Madison area right now through a federal grant to research electric vehicle charging patterns. For details, see http://www.mge.com/environment/innovative/EVCharging.htm.
