Make A Difference at Area Events

Summertime in Madison is an undeniably exciting time. We are blessed with an abundance of events that cover just about every interest out there. Food vendors, live music, sunshine and parades fill our weekends and give us time to catch up with friends, family, and local causes and businesses.

Unfortunately, all this celebrating comes with quite the pile of waste. Even the best recyclers and composters can forget to separate and many events make it difficult to properly dispose of waste. In order to remedy this issue, Madison Recycle Away from Home, or RAH, is a group that facilitates recycling at events in order to try to make them zero waste.

RAH is a joint project involving Sierra Club, Marquette Neighborhood Association, Wil-Mar Center and other community groups and activists.  The goal is to provide recycling and waste management tools, volunteers, support and education for neighborhood festivals and events in and around Madison. They also work with city and county officials to create recycling-friendly ordinances and regulations.

RAH is currently looking for volunteers for the summer season. Volunteering is an easy way to have a very positive impact while being able to enjoy the outdoors and the events as well.  Volunteers have time to enjoy the festival they are helping out at.

Check out the Madison RAH website for volunteer information and other steps to take to support their cause. Be sure to look out for recycling containers at the events and festival you attend this summer too!
