2012 Lake Monona Water Walk

July 6-8, 2012

Join in a walk around Lake Monona to raise awareness, appreciation, and gratitude for the waters of our community and our world.


A weekend of free festivities that are open to the public. This year, the 2012 Monona Water Walk will be led by First Nations Ojibwe Grandmother Josephine Mandamin and prolific author William Waterway Marks.

Grandmother Mandamin has walked the circumference of all the Great Lakes, and is featured in the film Waterlife showing outdoors Saturday, July 7th from 8:00-11:00 pm.

William Waterway Marks is a contributing author of the UN affiliated publication The Holy Order of Water and Water Voices from Around the World. Other contributing authors include Kofi Annan and Dr. Jane Goodall.

The 2012 Lake Monona Water Walk  begins Sunday, July 8th at 9:30 am followed by a Potluck at 3:00 pm to replenish your energies! Be mindful of hydration, fatigue, heat and hunger. Come prepared! If you need mobility assistance, the Badger Trolley will be running between all gathering locations.

In case of Inclement Weather, Winnequah park activities will be moved into the Monona Community Center & Monona Public Library. The 2012 Monona Water Walk will continue as planned, so dress appropriately. 

EnAct: Steps for Greener Living will be hosting an informational booth at the Water Expo along with many other local and national water resource allies Saturday, July 7th from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
