Sustainability Conference Month

It’s an exciting next few weeks for anyone interested in Sustainability.  Numerous organizations are sponsoring some exciting conferences that focus on sustainable thinking and innovations.  If you have any free time, there are some great opportunities to hear from experts as well as community members on important topics for a ‘greener’ world.

Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Conference

WSBCC

The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Conference (WSBC Conference) takes place on Friday, December 7 at the American Family Insurance Headquarters.  The intent of this conference is to facilitate interactions and ideas between different businesses that promote becoming ‘greener’.  This year will be the 5th year that the Conference has come to Madison. Each year, an exciting group of presenters come and share their experiences and techniques for combining work and sustainability.  The speakers range in topics as well as experiences and cover material ranging from implementing green technology into business models, to pursuing breakthrough technology for sustainability.

One of the coolest things about this conference is the lengths the organizers have gone to, to ensure that waste is diminished and money is being wisely spent.  Most conferences that people attend include free items, “swag”, that is handed out to anyone gets within 15 feet of a conferce; his year however, the WSBC Conference looks to end the useless waste by using money that would be spent on “swag” and instead donating it to organizations that fund entrepreneurs and students in developing countries.  Any leftover products from last year are being handed out this year, but no new items are being purchased to diminish waste.

Sponsored by a slew of local organizations (including our parent company Madison Environmental Group, LLC.), the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council Conference is a great way to develop a better understanding of how companies are taking initiatives to lessen their impact on the World and benefit their community.

Badgers Bioneers Conference 2012

The Bioneers conference is yet another way to get involved and connected with conservation efforts in the Madison community.  Badger Bioneers takes place December 12 and 13 at Union South on the UW Madison campus.  This conference, which looks to be less business oriented, is based on 3 elements:

Discover: innovative ideas and models

Learn: from experts about cutting-edge ideas

Connect: with others in your community

The Bioneers conference features speakers that range from “dreamers” and social activists, to Nobel laureates.  The key goal of Badger Bioneers 2012 is to get everyone into one area and talking.  It’s exciting to think that the next bold innovations or ideas could come out of Madison, and that is the hope.

These conferences provide an excellent way to build relationships and learn about the what others are doing regarding important issues in the world around us.

If you can take the time, I urge anyone interested in sustainability to attend,
Thanks,
