With the beginning of autumn has come the brisk afternoons perfect for cracking open some books. The Middleton Public Library has a huge list of “green” books, and the Madison Public Library offers book discussion kits including at least five copies of the book and discussion questions; just in case you haven’t read the books yet or missed the Go Big Read lecture, they have Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto and The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals. There will also be discussions of In Defense of Food at the Wisconsin Book Festival (Oct. 7-11, which includes presenters Wendell Berry and Will Allen).

The new edition of this book has recently come out, and the website offers fun tips and kid-friendly articles for children. This readable book is enjoyable for adults and kids.
